"You took the last cake, Mimie!" Aby shouted, his voice breaking the stillness. Mimie looked up, chewing slowly, her eyes wide with surprise. "I didn’t think you wanted it," she replied softly.
"But you didn’t ask!" He insisted, turning his head away. Mimie sighed, her voice barely a whisper. "It’s just a cake," she mumbled, feeling the weight of Aby's disappointment.
"I’m sorry. I’ll ask next time," she assured him, her tone sincere. Aby glanced at her, his expression softening just a bit. The corner of his mouth twitched, hinting at a smile.
"Remember this?" she asked, pointing to a picture of them playing in the rain. Aby giggled, the tension melting away. "You fell in the mud and cried like a baby!" he teased.
"No, you cried first!" Mimie laughed, nudging him playfully. Mimie sat close to Aby, her voice soft with affection. "I know we fight sometimes, but I love you, you know?" Aby nodded, his heart warming to her words. "I love you too. Even when you’re bossy."
Mimie whispered, her eyes heavy with sleep, "Goodnight, Aby." Aby replied softly, "Goodnight, Mimie," as he settled into his pillow. Their hearts were full—not with cake, but with love.
