Leo, a boy with tousled hair and a pair of oversized headphones, was sprawled on the couch, his fingers swiftly tapping the screen of his tablet. The game’s music blared, filling the room with a digital symphony. His mother, Maria, bustled around the house, folding laundry and occasionally casting a hopeful glance towards her son.
"Leo, could you help me with setting the table, please?" she asked, pausing at the doorway.
"Hold on, mom," he replied without looking up, his attention glued to the vibrant pixels dancing on his screen.
Maria sighed, shaking her head as she continued her chores alone. Her patience was wearing thin, yet she knew that scolding Leo wouldn’t change his habits. Outside, clouds gathered, casting a shadow over the once-bright room.
"Leo, it’s important to help out," Maria called again, more insistently this time.
"Just a minute," he mumbled, though his game showed no signs of ending soon.
Leo blinked, disoriented by the abrupt change. He looked around, finally noticing the quiet of the house without the hum of electronics. Maria stood nearby, holding a candle that flickered gently in the dim room.
"Looks like we’re in the dark," she said softly, handing Leo another candle.
"What do we do now?" he asked, a hint of curiosity in his voice.
Maria handed Leo a deck of cards, a smile playing on her lips.
"Let’s play something together," she suggested, shuffling the cards with practiced ease.
As they played, Leo found himself laughing and chatting, realizing how much he enjoyed this simple interaction.
Leo bounced into the kitchen, a newfound energy in his step. He set the table without being asked, arranging the cutlery with care.
"Thank you, Leo," Maria said, her eyes warm with appreciation.
"I like helping," Leo replied, realizing how rewarding it felt to contribute.
Leo glanced at his tablet, now forgotten on the couch, and then at his mother, understanding the importance of balance and responsibility.
"Maybe after breakfast, we can play cards again?" he suggested, eager to spend more time with her.
"I’d like that," Maria replied, smiling warmly, knowing that Leo had learned a valuable lesson.
