Leo the Lion struggles desperately, his amber eyes wide with pain and fear as he tries to free himself. Dust swirls around his mane, and his roars echo through the silent woodland. Above, birds scatter at the sound while the distant hum of insects fills the air.
Sammy the Boy steps forward, clutching a battered backpack. Patch the Puppy sniffs excitedly, tail wagging as he stops beside the trap. Sammy’s eyes widen in awe at the sight of the huge, regal creature lying helpless before him.
"Don't worry, big guy," Sammy says, voice trembling but kind. Patch creeps closer, nose twitching, and gives Leo a gentle lick on his nose, earning a surprised blink from the lion. Slowly, the tension fades as trust begins to form.
"I think I can do this," Sammy assures himself, glancing at Patch for courage. He carefully wraps the cloth around the lion’s paw and uses the stick to pry open the rusty jaws. Sweat beads on his brow, the trap groans, and with a final tug, the iron releases its grip.
"Thank you, little ones," Leo rumbles, his voice deep and grateful, surprising Sammy. The boy beams, and Patch leaps in circles, his excitement contagious. The lion bows his head in respect, acknowledging the bravery shown.
"Goodbye, Leo! Stay safe!" Sammy calls, waving as the lion pads away into the tall grass. Patch yips and runs after Sammy, both hearts full from their adventure. The savanna is peaceful once more, but its quiet now holds the memory of a friendship forged in courage.
