Bobby sat cross-legged on the family room rug, staring nervously at his reflection in a small hand mirror. Opening his mouth wide, he carefully touched his wobbly tooth. His heart was beating so fast at the thought of losing his tooth. "I don't want it to fall out,"he whispered to himself.
Later, at dinner, Bobby’s Mom noticed how uneasy he was as he poked around at his food. "Sweetie, is something bothering you?" she asked gently, kneeling beside him. "It's my tooth, Mom. What if it hurts when it falls out?" Bobby’s voice shook as he spoke and his eyes were getting watery.
"Oh honey, losing a tooth is a part of growing up," his Mom explained, gently stroking his hair. "Remember when your big brother, Davey, lost his first tooth? He was so proud." Davey, sitting across the table, grinned.
"Don’t worry, Bobby. You’rebecoming a big kid like me!”, Davey said, leaning over the table. "And don't forget about the Tooth Fairy! You put your tooth under your pillow when you go to bed, and she leaves you a reward for your tooth and for being so brave!” Bobby’s eyeswidened with curiosity and a hint of excitement.
A couple days later, Bobby lay in bed, hugging his favorite stuffed animal. "Losing my tooth wasn’t so bad,"he thought aloud. "Well, I put my tooth under my pillow just like Davey told me to, so let’s see if the Tooth Fairy really comes.”
Bobby woke up the next morning, feeling the space under his pillow where his tooth had been. His tooth was gone! And, in its place were a some very shiny coins! "Wow, it really happened!" he exclaimed, a bright smile spreading over his face. "I did it!" Bobby was officially turning into a big kid! He felt so happy and very, very proud of himself!
