Nanayjosil, a spirited 6-year-old girl, tiptoes barefoot across the creaky wooden floor, careful not to wake her two younger brothers, ages 4 and 2, who are still snuggled under a patchwork quilt. She peeks out the window, watching her father prepare the tools for the day’s chores.
"Mama, can I help with breakfast today?"
Her mother, belly round with the growing baby, smiles warmly and nods, her gentle hands guiding Nanayjosil to the kitchen.
Nanayjosil stands on a stool, stirring the pot while her mother hums a lullaby. The door creaks as her little brothers shuffle in, rubbing sleep from their eyes.
"Ate, can we eat now? I’m so hungry!" the 4-year-old pipes up, making Nanayjosil giggle.
Her mother gently pats her belly. "Soon, anak. Let’s set the table together," she replies, her eyes twinkling.
Their father joins, wiping sweat from his brow and planting a kiss on his wife’s forehead. Nanayjosil helps her brothers with their bowls, laughter spilling as the youngest tries to feed himself and ends up with porridge on his nose.
"Papa says today we can visit the creek after chores," Nanayjosil whispers excitedly, making her brothers cheer.
Nanayjosil chases her brothers around the yard, their laughter echoing across the farm. She pauses, watching her mother work, feeling a warm pride in helping her family.
"Mama, will the baby like playing with us?"
Her mother chuckles softly. "Of course, darling. The baby is lucky to have such loving siblings," she assures her.
Nanayjosil nestles against her mother’s side, feeling the baby kick gently beneath her hand. Her father tells stories of his childhood, and the children listen with wide-eyed wonder.
"When the baby comes, can I help take care of him?"
Her parents share a knowing smile. "Yes, you will be a wonderful big sister," her mother whispers, her voice full of love.
Nanayjosil drifts to sleep, her arms wrapped around her littlest brother, already imagining the adventures they will share with the new baby. The gentle rhythm of her mother’s lullaby carries through the quiet house, a promise of joy and togetherness for the days to come.
