Lily peeked out from behind the curtain, her heart pounding with a mix of excitement and nervousness. Today was the day she'd been waiting for, and yet, a million butterflies seemed to have taken flight in her stomach.
Lily sat at the table, her feet dangling from the chair. Her mother, Mrs. Thompson, placed a plate of pancakes in front of her. "Eat up, sweetheart. You’ll need all your energy for your first day," she said with an encouraging smile.
Lily clutched her backpack tightly as Mrs. Thompson held her hand. They walked down the driveway to the car, the crunch of gravel underfoot marking each step. "I hope I make friends today," Lily whispered, her eyes wide with anticipation.
The car came to a halt in front of the school. Lily took a deep breath as Mrs. Thompson helped her out of her seat. "Remember, just be yourself," Mrs. Thompson reassured her, giving her a warm hug.
Lily took a tentative step inside, scanning the room filled with unfamiliar faces. Her teacher, Ms. Parker, smiled warmly at her. "Welcome, Lily! We’re so glad to have you here," she said, her voice as soothing as a gentle breeze.
Lily hesitated for a moment before joining a group of kids playing with a set of colorful blocks. Emma, a girl with curly hair and a bright smile, looked up and waved. "Hi, I’m Emma. Want to build a castle together?" She asked. "I’d love to," Lily replied, feeling her nerves slowly fade away.
