Sunny, the little golden retriever puppy, gazed out with big, soulful brown eyes. His fluffy golden fur glowed in the gentle light, but his tail barely wagged. Outside, families walked past, sometimes stopping to peer in, but no one lingered at his kennel.
"Will someone ever take me home?" he wondered quietly, watching the shadows dance across the shelter floor.
Sunny perked up every time someone approached. Once, a little girl with pigtails knelt beside his kennel. Her eyes sparkled with curiosity, but her parents shook their heads and moved on. Sunny's ears drooped, and he let out a soft, wistful whimper.
"Maybe tomorrow, someone will choose me," he whispered, trying to sound brave.
Sunny curled tighter on his blanket, shivering a little as thunder rumbled outside. He watched the volunteers lock up, their faces kind but tired. In the soft hush, he dreamed of running across green grass, chasing butterflies, and snuggling beside a warm fire.
"I wish for a family to love me," he sighed, his eyelids growing heavy.
Character Introduction: Mr. Carter (kind father), Mrs. Carter (gentle mother), Eli (curious little boy).
Eli pressed his face to Sunny's kennel, eyes wide with wonder. "Look, Mama, he's just my size! Can we meet him?" Mrs. Carter smiled and nodded, while Mr. Carter knelt down to stroke Sunny through the bars.

Eli crouched down, holding out his hand. Sunny sniffed it, then licked his fingers shyly, earning a delighted giggle. Mrs. Carter gently stroked Sunny's back, while Mr. Carter tossed a squeaky toy, watching as Sunny chased it across the room.
"He's perfect! Can we take him home, please?" Eli pleaded, hope shining in his eyes.

Sunny feels warmth in his heart as Mrs. Carter calls him inside for dinner, and Mr. Carter sets out a shiny new water bowl. As the family gathers around him, Sunny snuggles close, finally home.
"Thank you for finding me," he thinks, his tail wagging happily as he drifts off to sleep, surrounded by love.
