The morning sun cast a warm glow over the old tarmac, the air crisp with the excitement of new possibilities. Dad stood beside a vibrant red quarter midget race car, his heart swelling with anticipation as he watched Lila, his five-year-old daughter, bounce with excitement. Her eyes sparkled, reflecting the car’s glossy sheen. "Ready to become a racer, kiddo?" he asked, his voice tinged with both pride and amusement.
"Yes, Daddy! I’m ready!" Lila chirped, her small hands already gripping the steering wheel as she clambered into the driver's seat.
Dad gently settled himself on the back of the car, his hands reaching over to guide Lila's. The engine purred to life, vibrating under her touch. "Alright, let's take it slow. Turn the wheel gently to the right," he instructed, watching her concentrate with furrowed brows.
"Like this?" Lila asked, her voice a mix of uncertainty and joy as the car began to move.
With each turn, Dad could feel Lila gaining confidence, her giggles bubbling up with each successful maneuver. "You're doing great, sweetheart. Just like that," he encouraged, his own heart racing in rhythm with the little car.
"Faster, Daddy, faster!" Lila squealed, her laughter infectious as they picked up speed.
A sudden gust of wind caught the car, causing it to wobble. Lila gasped, her grip tightening on the wheel. Dad quickly steadied it with a reassuring smile. "It's okay, I've got you. Remember, gentle hands," he said calmly, guiding her back on track.
"Sorry, Daddy. I got scared," she admitted, her voice small.
Dad nodded, squeezing her shoulder reassuringly. "It’s all part of learning, Lila. You're doing amazing. Want to try one more lap?" he asked, his eyes encouraging her.
"Yes! I can do it," Lila replied with renewed determination, guiding the car with more assurance this time.
As they completed another lap, Lila's laughter echoed across the empty lot. Dad could already envision her racing on tracks, each turn bringing her closer to her dreams. "One day, you’ll leave me in the dust," he mused aloud, a smile playing on his lips.
"I’ll win every race, Daddy!" Lila declared, her voice filled with the boundless enthusiasm of youth.
