A young child, Lila, stands at the crest of a hill, her small hand firmly in her father’s. The air is sweet and filled with the distant songs of meadowlarks. At her side, a gentle white lamb nuzzles her leg, its fleece soft as a cloud. Together, they begin their journey down a winding path, the world waking up around them.
Lila kneels beside the stream, cupping her hands to sip the cool, sweet water. The lamb prances nearby, chasing fluttering butterflies. Her father sits on a large, mossy stone and smiles, watching her rest peacefully in the gentle shade of a willow tree. "He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul," her father says softly, his voice like a lullaby on the breeze.
As they walk, Lila pauses at a fork in the trail, uncertain which way to go. The lamb nudges her forward, and her father points down a sunlit path. "He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake," he assures her, his hand steady and strong in hers. With hearts light and trusting, they journey on, the lamb playfully skipping ahead.
Lila holds her father’s hand tightly as the world grows dim. The lamb presses close, its side warm against her leg. Though the forest seems eerie, her father’s voice is calm and unwavering. "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me," he whispers, gently tapping his shepherd’s staff on the ground. The shadows seem less frightening when he speaks, and Lila feels brave.
Lila and her father sit at the table, laughter and joy filling the air. She notices a group of wolves watching from the shadows but feels no fear—the feast is safe and inviting. "You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows," her father proclaims, pouring sweet oil into her palm and letting it glisten in the light. Lila smiles, feeling cherished and protected.
As they reach their cottage, Lila looks back at the hills, the journey fresh in her memory. The lamb curls up at her feet, and her father opens the door, welcoming her into the warm glow inside. "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever," he says, gathering her into a loving embrace. Lila closes her eyes, heart full of peace, knowing she is always safe and loved.
