Daisy the Duck waddled nervously along the edge of a shimmering pond, her feathers slightly ruffled from a restless night spent searching for her missing family. She paused, peering around, hoping to spot a familiar beak or a comforting quack, but the park was strangely silent.
Milo the Cat crept from behind a park bench, his fur matted and his tail low, eyes darting as he scanned the unfamiliar terrain. He seemed just as lost as Daisy, his nose twitching as he sniffed the damp air.
Daisy noticed movement beneath the willow and cautiously approached. Milo looked up, startled, his bright green eyes wide with curiosity and fear.
"Hello... are you lost, too?"
"I am. I can't find my way home. Everything here smells strange," he replied, his voice trembling with uncertainty.
Daisy settled onto the cool grass, her webbed feet tucked beneath her. She watched Milo with soft, understanding eyes.
"I lost my family last night. I’ve been waddling around ever since, but everything looks the same,"
"Maybe we can look together? Two noses are better than one, right?" Milo offered, a small hopeful smile breaking through his worried expression.
Daisy and Milo set out side by side, exploring the winding paths and sniffing around bushes and trees. The pair asked other animals they met—a wise old crow, a pair of chatty squirrels—if they’d seen a duck family or a wayward cat’s home.
"Excuse me, have you seen any other ducks or a house with a red door?"
"Or maybe a garden with lots of catnip? That’s where I lived," Milo added, his whiskers twitching in anticipation.
Daisy glanced at Milo, sensing his fatigue. She nudged him gently.
"Even if we haven’t found them yet, I’m glad I met you," she said, her voice warm. Milo purred softly, his eyes closing for a moment of peace.
"Me too. It’s less scary when you have a friend,"
Suddenly, Daisy's head perked up. She heard a familiar sound and quacked with all her might. Across the water, her family responded, waddling toward her.
Milo smiled, happy for his new friend, but a little sad for himself. Just then, a woman’s voice called out, "Milo! Where are you, darling?"
Milo and Daisy exchanged a joyful look, knowing their journeys were about to end—and new ones, together or apart, would soon begin.
