Nimbus the tiny cloud wobbled through the sky, peeking down at the peaceful village below. All the other clouds had already floated high above, but Nimbus was curious and wanted to see what was happening on the ground. The early sunlight warmed the rooftops, and birds chirped from chimneys. Nimbus felt a little thrill—maybe today would be special.
Nimbus grew excited and drifted lower, but with each bounce, a gentle drizzle slipped from its fluff. Raindrops pattered onto storybooks and puddled near a little girl reading quietly. Librarian Owl, perched on a ladder, blinked in confusion as rain splashed onto his feathers.
"Good gracious! Rain inside the library?"
Nimbus wanted to apologize but could only sprinkle more rain in embarrassment, making the books even soggier.
Nimbus floated on, feeling puzzled but hopeful. The next thing Nimbus saw was a birthday party in full swing—balloons swaying and children laughing. Without meaning to, Nimbus hovered over the cake, and rain splattered onto the candles, snuffing them out and turning the frosting soggy. The children gasped, and Birthday Girl Mia frowned at her wilted cake.
"Why is it raining inside?"
Nimbus felt a little smaller inside.
