Eli's afternoon was interrupted by the soft call of his mother, Emily. "Eli, can you come inside for a moment? We have something to tell you," she said, her voice filled with warmth and a hint of excitement. Eli hesitated, his small hand clutching a red toy car, before he stood up and made his way indoors, curiosity piqued.
"Eli, we have some wonderful news," Caleb said, looking at his son with pride. Emily leaned forward, "You're going to be a big brother soon!" she announced, her eyes sparkling with joy. Eli blinked, processing the information. He felt a mix of emotions—excitement mingled with a twinge of apprehension about sharing his parents’ love.
Eli picked up his teddy bear, hugging it tightly. "Will Mommy and Daddy still have time for me when the baby comes?" he wondered aloud, his voice tinged with uncertainty. He pictured the baby taking over his spot in family activities, a worry that left him feeling isolated despite the comfort of his familiar room.
Eli joined his parents at the table, and over syrupy bites, Emily and Caleb shared stories about when Eli was a baby. "You were such a curious little guy," Caleb said, ruffling Eli's hair. Emily added, "You brought so much joy into our lives, just like your little sibling will." Eli listened intently, beginning to see how love could be shared without being divided.
His parents watched from a nearby bench, Emily holding Caleb's hand. Eli paused and waved at them, feeling their love radiating towards him. "Maybe being a big brother won't be so bad," he thought, smiling as he imagined sharing his adventures with someone new.
Eli stood beside his parents, feeling a sense of belonging he hadn't anticipated. Emily knelt beside him, "You're going to be an amazing big brother, Eli," she whispered, her smile reassuring. With a newfound confidence, Eli hugged her tightly, knowing that the love in their family would only grow stronger.
