Maya, a cheerful girl with curly hair, giggled as she swung higher and higher on the swing set. Nearby, Liam, a boy with bright eyes and dark skin, was building a sandcastle with Sofia, who wore a sparkly headband and loved to share her toys. Children from all corners of the world played together, their laughter sparkling in the warm light. Maya hopped off the swing and waved to her friends, excited for another fun day.
"Let's see who can build the tallest sandcastle!"
As everyone gathered, Jin, a quiet boy with straight black hair, stood a little apart, unsure whether he was welcome. Liam noticed, but before he could say anything, some kids started the game without asking Jin to join. Jin's shoulders slumped as he watched the others laugh and run, wishing he felt included. Sofia saw the sadness in his eyes and nudged Maya.
"I think Jin wants to play too, but maybe he’s too shy to ask,"
Maya skipped over to Jin, her eyes bright with kindness. She knelt beside him so they were face-to-face, her voice gentle and welcoming.
"Would you like to play with us, Jin? We need someone smart on our team!"
Jin's face lit up, and a big smile spread across his face. The other kids cheered and clapped, making space for him to join their circle.
As the game continued, Liam tripped and fell, scraping his knee. Instantly, Sofia and Jin hurried to his side, offering their hands and a comforting word. "Are you okay, Liam? Here, you can lean on me," Maya fetched a bandage from her backpack, and together they made sure Liam felt better. With kindness and teamwork, everyone was soon smiling again.
Sofia brought out a box of cookies, and each child took turns sharing their favorite treat or a story from home. Everyone listened carefully, clapping and laughing at each tale. No one was left out, and the circle grew bigger as more children joined, drawn by the warmth and joy of the group. "Being kind feels really good," Liam said, and everyone nodded in agreement.
As parents arrived to take them home, the children promised to always remember how wonderful it felt to be kind to one another. Maya waved to her friends, her voice bright and clear.
"Let’s always make everyone feel welcome, every day,"
And with that, the playground echoed with laughter and a promise: kindness would always be their magic.
