Mittens, the fluffy orange tabby, lounged lazily on the window sill, his eyes half-closed yet alert to every movement. Ella, a bright-eyed girl of seven, sat cross-legged on her bed, a book spread open before her. "Ella, you can do it," Mittens seemed to purr encouragingly, nudging her hand with his head.
Ella furrowed her brow, her finger tracing each word slowly. Mittens watched her, his tail flicking rhythmically. "Sound it out," she whispered to herself, glancing at Mittens as if seeking approval.
Mittens nudged the book with his nose, a small gesture that brought a smile to Ella's face. "Okay, Mittens, let's try again," she said with renewed determination, her voice a mixture of resolve and affection.
Ella's laughter rang out as she successfully read a particularly tricky sentence. "We did it, Mittens!" she exclaimed, hugging the cat tightly. Mittens purred contentedly, his eyes sparkling with shared joy.
"Thank you, Mittens," Ella whispered, her voice soft with gratitude. Mittens responded with a gentle nuzzle, his purr a soothing lullaby as Ella drifted into dreams filled with stories yet to be told.
Ella awoke with a smile, ready to embark on another reading adventure with her faithful companion, Mittens. Together, they'd conquer the world, one page at a time.
