Jamie, dressed in his favorite red shirt, clutches a pair of large silver scissors in his hands. The mammoth towers beside him, enormous and gentle, its wool tangled and unruly. Children from the nearby village watch from a distance, their laughter echoing across the field. Jamie takes a deep breath, determined to help his new friend.
Jamie pats the mammoth’s massive head, whispering encouragement. "Don't worry, big guy. I'll make you the handsomest mammoth in the valley," he says with a smile. The mammoth blinks its warm, dark eyes, giving a gentle, rumbling sigh. Sunlight dances on the tools, and the anticipation in the air is almost electric.
Jamie works carefully, brushing out matted patches and snipping away tangles. "You sure have a lot of hair, don't you?" he laughs, wrestling with a stubborn tuft near the mammoth’s ear. The mammoth lets out a playful trumpet, startling a flock of birds into the sky. Their playful bond grows with every careful snip.
Pip, the village dog, leaps and tumbles through the wool, sending everyone into fits of laughter. Jamie tries to shoo Pip away, but the dog only barks louder, his tail wagging furiously. "Alright, Pip, you can help—but only if you behave!" The chaos brings even more villagers to watch, their faces bright with amusement.
Children rush forward to stroke the mammoth’s new haircut, giggling at how dapper he looks. Jamie grins, brushing stray fur from his shirt. "See? Looking good, my friend," he says, giving the mammoth a gentle pat. The mammoth trumpets joyfully, shaking the ground with its happiness.
Jamie laughs and dances with the children, feeling a warm pride in his heart. Even Pip gets a tiny bow tied around his neck from the leftover wool. The mammoth, now the star of the evening, gives everyone rides across the meadow. Under the shimmering stars, Jamie whispers, "Best haircut ever."
