Baby, the eldest sister at fifteen, watches over her siblings with gentle patience, her eyes soft but alert. Lucky, thirteen and unafraid, grins as she spins a game out of thin air, a ringleader in mischief. Sweety, twelve, clever and quick, flashes a secret smile at her younger brothers. Prince, nine, and Micky, eight, chase one another in wild circles, their laughter echoing like birdsong. Two more—Lovely and Monu, cousins visiting for the summer—join the fray, the youngest tumbling through the grass, their excitement limitless.
Baby sits closest to Grandfather, listening intently. Lucky fidgets, eyeing the clusters of unripe mangoes overhead. Sweety exchanges a knowing look with her brothers, while Prince and Micky try to stifle their impatience. Grandfather"Remember, no plucking unripe mangoes. We wait for them to ripen, and then, together, we enjoy their sweetness. That is our tradition."[/@ch_8]
Mehma’s son, a sturdy young man of nineteen, storms toward the children, anger etched in every stride. "Get out of here! How many times must I tell you—no playing on our land!"Monu freezes, fear widening his eyes as Mehma’s son snatches up a stone and hurls it. The stone strikes Monu in the chest, sending him crashing to the ground with a startled, pained cry. The laughter dies, replaced by stunned silence and trembling hands.
"We can’t just let him get away with this. Monu didn’t deserve that."Prince nods fiercely, his fists clenched. Sweety leans forward, her clever mind already racing with ideas. "Let’s teach him a lesson—with a little adventure of our own," Micky whispers, eyes shining with anticipation.
Baby, Lucky, and Sweety ready themselves to climb, their hands chalky with dust. Prince, Micky, and Monu stand guard below, shirts stretched out to catch the forbidden fruit. "Pick the biggest ones! And watch out for Mehma or his son," Prince whispers, casting anxious glances toward the farmhouse.
"RUN!"Micky and Monu bolt, mangoes tumbling from their arms. Baby and Lucky scramble down, their feet barely touching the bark. But Sweety, lost in her mission, only notices the danger too late. She leaps, her frock tearing on a jagged branch, and hits the ground with a sharp cry, knee scraped raw.
Lucky rushes to Sweety, arms thrown around her in relief. Baby checks her sister’s torn dress, voice trembling between worry and awe. All at once, the tension dissolves into laughter—loud, joyous, and unstoppable.
Lovely teases Sweety about her daring leap, while Monu proudly displays his battle bruise. Baby smiles, her heart full, as Lucky declares the adventure an epic success. "What a great adventure!"
Baby looks around at her siblings and cousins, her voice soft but sure. "Courage and unity can turn even the toughest moments into unforgettable memories. But true adventure always walks hand-in-hand with kindness and responsibility."
