Brandon bounced on the edge of the couch, his eyes fixed on the clock. Nancy sat cross-legged on the floor, flipping through a pet care book, her brow furrowed with concentration. "Do you think Mom will say yes?" Brandon asked, his voice a mix of hope and anxiety. "She has to," Nancy replied, glancing up with a reassuring smile. "We've been so responsible lately!"

Mom, a kind woman with a warm smile, turned from the stove and nodded. "We've been thinking about adopting a kitten and a puppy," Brandon blurted out.
