Emma was sitting alone on the wooden bench, her eyes following a group of kids playing tag. She clutched her favorite teddy bear, Mr. Snuggles, close to her chest. "I wish I had someone to play with," she whispered to Mr. Snuggles.
Lucas paused at the entrance, scanning the playground nervously. "Maybe someone here likes soccer," he thought, adjusting his cap. As his eyes met Emma's, he offered a shy smile.
Lucas approached the bench and stood hesitantly. "Hi, I'm Lucas. Do you want to play?" he asked, his voice hopeful.
Emma looked up, surprised but pleased. "I'm Emma, and this is Mr. Snuggles. We'd love to play!"
Emma tossed the soccer ball to Lucas, giggling as he caught it with ease. "Let's see if we can score some goals!" he said, running towards the makeshift goalposts. Emma followed, her laughter ringing out as they played.
Lucas looked at Emma, his eyes sparkling with happiness. "I'm glad I came here today," he said. "Me too," Emma replied, smiling warmly. "I think we make a great team."
Emma and Lucas walked side by side, their friendship blossoming like the flowers along the path. "See you tomorrow?" Lucas asked.
"Definitely," Emma replied, waving goodbye. As they parted ways, both knew they had found something special—a new friend.
