Charlotte skipped up the path to her cousins' house, her backpack bouncing with each step. Her heart raced with excitement as she imagined the night ahead. "I've never had a sleepover here before!" she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling.
Brynnlee, with her curly hair bouncing around her shoulders, opened the door with a wide grin. "You're going to love it! We have so many plans," she promised, pulling Charlotte inside.
Rhett, the youngest of the trio, was in charge of the fort's design. His imagination knew no bounds. "This will be our castle," he declared, his small hands busy arranging the fabric.
Charlotte crawled inside, her eyes wide with wonder. "It's like a secret world," she whispered, her voice echoing softly in the cozy space.
Brynnlee was 'it,' her eyes covered as she counted down. Charlotte and Rhett giggled, sneaking into their hiding spots. The thrill of the game made their hearts race.
"Ready or not, here I come!" Brynnlee announced, her voice filled with anticipation as she began the hunt.
Charlotte led the way, her flashlight revealing hidden paths between the trees. "Look at the stars," she marveled, pointing upwards where the sky stretched wide and endless.
Rhett was close behind, his own light casting playful shadows on the ground. "Do you think there are aliens watching us?" he asked, his voice a mix of wonder and mischief.
The trio settled into their sanctuary, their faces illuminated by the glow of a small lantern. Brynnlee began telling a story, her voice a gentle lullaby weaving tales of dragons and knights.
Charlotte listened intently, her imagination painting vivid pictures of the adventure. "I wish we could stay here forever," she sighed contentedly.
Rhett yawned, his eyes fluttering closed. "This was the best night ever," he murmured, nestled between his cousins.
Brynnlee nodded in agreement, "We should do this again," she whispered, her voice trailing off as sleep claimed them.
Charlotte, the last to succumb to the night, gazed at the ceiling of their fort, dreaming of the adventures yet to come.
