Eli opened his eyes slowly, feeling the cool dampness beneath him. His room was bathed in the soft glow of dawn, the warmth of the sun contrasting sharply with the wet sheets that clung to him. He sat up, bewildered, and glanced around his room, noting the open window that allowed the morning air to dance through.
[@ch_1]Eli[/@ch_1_d]"Mom! Mom!"[/@ch_1_d] he called out, scrambling out of bed and leaving a trail of tiny, wet footprints across the wooden floor.
Mom stood at the kitchen counter, her hands busy with the morning routine. She turned, her expression shifting from morning calm to curiosity as she saw Eli appear in the doorway, his hair tousled and his pajamas dripping.
"Eli, what happened?" she asked, setting down her mug.
[@ch_1]Eli[/@ch_1_d]"A cloud, Mom! A cute little cloud named Nimbus snuck in through my window last night and rained on my bed!"[/@ch_1_d] he exclaimed, his eyes wide with excitement.
Mom guided Eli to the couch, her mind half-amused, half-intrigued by his tale. Eli sat cross-legged, his face animated as he recounted the night's events.
[@ch_1]Eli[/@ch_1_d]"It whispered secrets of the sky, Mom! And its rain was like a gentle hug,"[/@ch_1_d] he continued, his voice a mix of wonder and certainty.
Mom smiled softly, her heart warmed by her son's vivid imagination. "What kind of secrets did it share?" she asked, encouraging his creativity.
Eli leaned in closer, dropping his voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "It told me about the stars, how they twinkle to say goodnight to the moon. And that raindrops are the sky's way of sending kisses to the earth," he confided, his eyes alight with the magic of his story.
Mom listened intently, her mind drifting to her own childhood dreams of clouds and adventures. She wondered if perhaps, in the innocence of youth, magic truly did exist.
Mom helped Eli change his sheets, the mundane task turned into a shared adventure. As they worked, Mom found herself believing, if only for a moment, in the possibility of a mischievous cloud.
[@ch_1]Eli[/@ch_1_d]"Do you think Nimbus will come back tonight?"[/@ch_1_d] he asked, hopeful.
[@ch_2]Mom[/@ch_2_d]"Perhaps,"[/@ch_2_d] she replied with a smile, "just make sure to leave the window open."
As Eli ran off to play, Mom watched him from the window, her heart light. She knew that whether or not Nimbus returned, the stories they shared would always bring a touch of magic to their lives.
