In the quiet of the night, Boggle, the Boogie Man, crept into Lila's room. His shadow stretched across the walls, a dark silhouette against the pale light. His eyes darted nervously towards the bed where Lila, a brave little girl with dreams as vivid as her laughter, lay asleep, cocooned in her blankets.
Boggle hesitated, his hand hovering over the stack of bubble gum on the nightstand. Despite his nightly visits, he always felt an inexplicable fear of Lila waking up. "What if tonight's the night she sees me?" he thought, a shiver running down his spine.
Just as Boggle was about to pocket his prize, Lila stirred slightly, murmuring in her sleep. Her small hand reached out, brushing the edge of the nightstand, and Boggle froze. "I should go," he whispered to himself, yet an unusual curiosity kept him rooted to the spot.
Lila, still asleep, turned over with a soft sigh, and Boggle took a deep breath. "Maybe she wouldn't mind if I just took one," he mused, reaching out once more. But as he did, Lila smiled in her sleep, a dreamy expression that seemed to banish the shadows around him.
Boggle found himself retreating, leaving the bubble gum untouched. He glanced back at Lila, feeling a strange mix of fear and admiration. "Perhaps there's more to her than I thought," he pondered, slipping back into the shadows where he belonged.
Lila awoke with a yawn, stretching her arms wide. She noticed the bubble gum still there and chuckled. "I must have the nicest boogie man ever," she said to herself, imagining the adventures she would have when night fell again.
