Mila stretches her paws and grins at Sophia. Sophia wiggles her whiskers, already plotting their morning adventure. The river seems peaceful, but the air is charged with the promise of excitement. "Race you to the old willow tree!"Mila squeaks, darting off before Sophia can respond.
Sophia catches up, giggling as she pushes Mila playfully. They weave between the willow’s roots, chasing minnows and popping their heads above water to see who can balance longer on a slippery branch. Laughter echoes as they compete, neither noticing the current pulling them gently downstream. "Bet I can balance longer than you, Mila!"
Mila blinks in confusion, realizing they’ve floated much farther than planned. Sophia grabs her paw, a hint of worry in her eyes. The distant sound of churning water makes them look at each other nervously. "Uh, Sophia...do you know where we are?" "Not exactly," she admits, her voice small.
Mila grabs onto the weeds, pulling and tugging with all her might. Splashes fly as she works to free Sophia, both of them growing tired but determined. Above, a heron watches silently, its reflection shimmering in the troubled water. "Don’t let go, Mila! I’m stuck!"
Mila helps Sophia climb onto a mossy log. They sit for a moment, catching their breath and watching the water swirl lazily by. Relief washes over them, and they begin to smile again, grateful to be safe together. "Let’s stick together from now on, okay?" "Always," Sophia replies, squeezing her paw.
Sophia and Mila arrive at their favorite rock, tired but happy. They curl up together in the fading sunlight, promising to always look out for each other—and maybe to be a little more careful next time. "What an adventure! But next time, let’s
