Mia, a spirited 16-year-old with a mischievous glint in her eyes, turned to her friends, Stephanie and Emma, as they contemplated how to carry out their spontaneous idea. "We can't have a proper piggyback race with just three of us," she pointed out, her voice filled with determination.
Stephanie, always up for a challenge, shrugged. "We could find someone else to join us," she suggested, scanning the yard. Emma, the planner of the group, nodded in agreement.
Mia approached Jason, her younger brother, who was quietly enjoying the last of his sandwich. "Hey, Jason! Want to join us for a piggyback race?" she asked with enthusiasm.
Jason, caught off guard, hesitated. "I don't know, Mia. I just ate," he replied softly. But before he could refuse, Mia had already hoisted him onto her back, her mind set on the race.
Stephanie crouched slightly, allowing Emma to climb onto her back with a grin. "Ready to lose?" she teased, her eyes gleaming with competitive spirit.
Mia adjusted her grip on Jason and smirked. "Not a chance, Steph," she called out, her voice full of playful confidence. The friends exchanged a look of camaraderie before Mia shouted, "On your marks, get set, go!"
Stephanie surged forward, her powerful strides giving her an early lead. Emma clung onto her tightly, giggling with excitement. "Faster, Steph, faster!" she urged amidst laughter.
Mia, not one to be outdone, pushed herself harder, the competitive thrill driving her forward. Jason, though reluctant at first, found himself caught up in the excitement, cheering his sister on. "Come on, Mia, you can do it!" he shouted gleefully.
Stephanie was still in the lead, but Mia's determination was unyielding. With a final burst of speed, Mia overtook her friend, crossing the finish line just a hair's breadth ahead. Cheers erupted as Mia and Jason celebrated their victory.
"Wow, Mia, you really pulled it off!" Stephanie exclaimed, catching her breath but grinning widely. Emma, still on Stephanie's back, applauded their effort.
Mia gently set Jason down and ruffled his hair affectionately. "Thanks for being my partner, little bro," she said with a smile.
Jason, feeling proud despite himself, grinned back. "Anytime, Mia," he replied. The four friends sat together, basking in the glow of their shared moment, knowing this day would be a cherished memory.
