Inside the castle walls, Princess Elara is not found in the throne room or the ballroom, but in her laboratory, surrounded by beakers and books. She wears a simple white coat over her royal gown. "I need to adjust the experiment parameters," shemutters, eyes focused on the swirling liquid in a flask.
King Aric, Elara's father, strides through the square, his brow furrowed with concern. "Elara spends too much time with her experiments," he confides to his advisor. Advisor Thomlin, "Perhaps her science can benefit our kingdom," he suggests.
Princess Elara hunches over her latest invention, a contraption of gears and glass. "If I can harness the wind's power," [@ch_1]she[/@ch_1_d] muses, "we could bring electricity to the entire kingdom." The storm outside begins to rage, punctuating her words with flashes of lightning.
