Pumpkin Darrel sat cozily in the patch, humming Christmas carols to himself. As he gazed at the distant farmhouse decorated with shimmering tinsel, he imagined the warmth and laughter inside. The other pumpkins nearby cast curious glances but didn’t dare interrupt his festive daydreams.
Maggie the Pumpkin, plump and bright, finally spoke up. "Darrel, why are you always so excited about Christmas? Halloween is our time to shine—why do you care so much about another holiday?"
"Oh, Maggie, Christmas is a time when everyone is full of joy and gratitude. It’s when people come together, sing songs, and celebrate the birth of Jesus. The world feels so peaceful and bright then," replied Darrel, his voice as warm as the sunlight.

Benny the Pumpkin cocked his stem thoughtfully. "But don’t you want to be carved and glowing on Halloween night, scaring and delighting everyone?"
"It’s fun, Benny, but Christmas is about kindness and sharing. I love singing carols, seeing everyone happy, and giving thanks. There’s magic in the air that makes me feel special," Darrel replied, his Christmas hat bobbing as he spoke.
Charlie, the little girl from the farmhouse, spotted Darrel at once. She knelt down, her scarf fluttering in the wind. "You look so happy, little pumpkin! Why do you wear that Christmas hat all the time?"
"Christmas is my favorite! I love the songs, the lights, and how everyone feels close and kind," Darrel said, his joy shining through.
"Well, I want you to spend Christmas with us in the farmhouse. I think you’ll make this Christmas extra special," Charlie beamed, gently scooping Darrel into her arms.
Darrel was placed beside the nativity, his little hat sparkling in the firelight. The family gathered around the tree, singing carols and exchanging hugs. Darrel felt warmth and happiness like never before, his heart swelling as he watched the celebration of Jesus’s birth.

Maggie turned to the others, her eyes wide. "Look at Darrel! He really does shine brighter at Christmas," she whispered.
"I get it now," murmured Benny. "Maybe Christmas really is the most special time of the year."
As the farmhouse family sang and danced inside, the pumpkins outside joined in, humming softly to themselves. For the first time, joy and peace filled the entire patch, and every pumpkin wore a gentle smile beneath the winter stars.
