Bertie sat cross-legged on his bed, his eyes darting between the pages of a new manga and the flickering screen where a game paused mid-battle. Though surrounded by his cherished hobbies, a sense of longing tugged at his heart. He yearned for companionship, but the thought of meeting new people made his stomach churn.
With a deep breath, Bertie stepped inside, his senses overwhelmed by the lively atmosphere. The flyer depicted a group of animated characters, their expressions full of excitement. "Could this be my chance?" he thought, feeling a mix of hope and trepidation.
"It's just a club meeting," he murmured to himself, trying to muster courage. "I can do this. I want to do this." With determination, he approached the counter, where a friendly barista offered a reassuring smile.
Bertie hesitated at the edge of the group, his heart pounding. A tall boy with glasses and a warm demeanor noticed him and waved him over. Eli, the club leader, introduced himself with a welcoming grin. "Hey, I'm Eli. You must be new here!" he said, extending a hand.
The shared passion for anime created an instant bond among the club members. Bertie laughed at jokes, shared his own thoughts, and felt a warmth spread through him as he realized he was no longer an outsider. "This is amazing," he thought, a smile stretching across his face.
"We're meeting again next week," Eli said, clapping Bertie on the back. "You should definitely come!" Bertie nodded enthusiastically, the fear of meeting new people now a distant memory. As he stepped out into the cool night air, he felt lighter, filled with hope for the friendships that lay ahead.
