Goldie, the smallest with a golden sheen to his skull, nudges his siblings awake, bones rattling softly.
Buddy, with a slightly crooked ribcage and an adventurous spirit, yawns, his jaw creaking open.
Blondie, her bones almost translucent, blinks her empty sockets eagerly.
"Did you hear the legend again last night? The one about the golden bone hidden somewhere in this house?"
"Of course I did! They say whoever finds it will be the happiest puppy forever!"
"Let’s look for it tonight. I have a feeling we’re meant to find it."
The trio tiptoe down the stairs, their bones making soft clinking sounds against the floorboards. Each step is cautious, but their excitement builds with every creak.
"I bet it’s hidden in the kitchen. That’s where all the best treats are," jokes Buddy, leading the way with a bouncy gait.
"Let’s check every nook and cranny!"
Blondie pauses under the portrait, her gaze fixed on the bone depicted in the painting.
"Maybe the portrait is a clue. Look at the strange pawprint under the rug," she whispers, nose close to the ground.
Buddy tugs the rug aside, revealing a paw-shaped groove carved into the floorboards.
"What if we all press our paws here together?"
Anxiously, the three skeleton puppies squeeze through the passage, their bones casting long shadows on the walls.
"This is amazing! I never knew the house had such secrets," Buddy marvels.
"Stay close together. I can hear something jingling ahead," warns Blondie.
The puppies approach, awe-struck. The bone shimmers, casting golden rays that dance across the chamber walls.
"We found it! The golden bone is real!"
"It’s even more beautiful than I imagined,"
"Let’s touch it together, just like we did with the pawprint,"
Goldie nuzzles the bone, happiness radiating from every rattle.
Blondie giggles as Buddy performs a clumsy dance, the three of them wrapped in warmth and contentment.
"As long as we stick together, we’ll always find happiness—golden bone or not,"
"But it sure is nice to have, isn’t it?"
The Rattlebones curl up around their treasure, dreaming of new adventures and knowing their hearts—and bones—will always be golden.
