Goldie, her skull adorned with a tiny golden bow, nudged a crumpled note found at the base of the tree. Buddy, the tallest of the group with a bone-chipped ear, scanned the dark landscape.
Buttercup, whose ribs glowed with a faint buttery hue, whispered anxiously, "Did you hear that whimper last night? I think someone’s lost out there."
Blondie, with a tail that clinked with every wag, pawed at the ground. "We can’t leave a puppy alone. Let’s find them before sunrise."
Goldie led the way, her eyesockets alert for movement. Buddy sniffed at a set of tiny pawprints that glimmered faintly with spectral light.
"These tracks are fresh. Our lost friend can't be far," he said, his bones rattling with anticipation.
Buttercup stopped suddenly, ears pricked. "Listen! Over there—near the old mausoleum!"
Blondie picked up the collar, holding it delicately between her teeth. "This must belong to the lost puppy. They can’t be far,"
Suddenly, a soft, frightened yelp echoed from beneath the stone steps. Goldie knelt to peer into the shadows, calling out gently, "Don’t be scared! We’re here to help you."
Buddy squeezed through first, his bones scraping softly on the stone. Buttercup followed, her gentle voice soothing, "We’re your friends. Come out, little one."
A pair of wide, glowing eyes appeared in the darkness, and a tiny, trembling skeletal puppy crept into view. The lost puppy’s bones shimmered with a silvery light, and relief flooded the group.
Blondie nudged the locket, smiling kindly. "You’re safe now. Let’s take you home,"
Goldie tilted her head, "What’s your name, little one?"
The lost puppy answered softly, "I’m Silver. Thank you for finding me."
The group shared a joyful chorus of rattling bones, their laughter echoing through the cemetery.
Buddy grinned, "No puppy gets left behind—not in the Rattlebones."
Buttercup added, "Every lost friend is a story waiting to be found."
Together, they disappeared into the light, ready for whatever adventure awaited them next.
