Slither the Rattlesnake coiled himself tightly in the corner of his large glass enclosure, his eyes fixed warily on the hawk perched nearby. "I don't like this," he muttered to himself, his tongue flicking nervously.
Hawkeye the Hawk ruffled his feathers, his sharp eyes scanning the room. "Relax, snake," he said, his voice smooth yet commanding. "Easy for you to say," Slither replied, his rattle giving a faint shake.
Dr. Jonah, the kind-hearted man who had taken them in, entered the room carrying a tray of food. "I know it's unusual," he said, setting the tray down, "but you'll both be friends before you know it."
Slither watched as Dr. Jonah gently fed Hawkeye some meat. "He saved us both, you know," Hawkeye said, glancing at Slither. "Maybe there's something to this friendship thing," Slither mused, his coils relaxing slightly.
Slither and Hawkeye shared stories of their past adventures, finding common ground in their struggles. "Perhaps we're not so different after all," Hawkeye noted, his voice thoughtful.
Slither felt a newfound sense of peace. "Maybe this isn't so bad," he thought, his fear slowly melting away. As Dr. Jonah checked on them one last time, both animals rested, comforted by the warmth of unexpected friendship.
