A young boy named Ethan stands near the edge of the playground, his eyes following a group of kids who are laughing and running around the jungle gym. He clutches a small, worn-out soccer ball, hoping to join in their game.
Maya, the leader of the group, notices Ethan standing alone and whispers to her friends. They exchange glances, unsure whether to let him join.
Liam, a boy with curly hair, shrugs. "Maybe he won't be any good," he says, a hint of doubt in his voice.
"Hey, can I play with you guys?" Ethan asks, trying to sound confident.
"Do you know how to play soccer?" Maya inquires, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, I play all the time," Ethan replies, his grip tightening on the ball.
Sophie, the youngest of the group, smiles and nods. "Let's give him a chance," she suggests, her voice filled with kindness.
Maya shrugs, a smile spreading across her face. "Alright, you're in," she says, motioning for Ethan to join the circle.
Ethan runs alongside his new friends, his heart soaring with joy. The ball bounces between them, and for the first time, he feels like part of the team.
"Nice pass, Ethan!" Maya calls out, her earlier reservations forgotten.
Ethan waves goodbye to his new friends, a smile lighting up his face. "See you tomorrow!" he says, his voice filled with newfound confidence.
As he walks back to class, the warmth of acceptance lingers, promising more games and laughter in the days to come.
