Jake, a mischievous thirteen-year-old with an infectious grin, leaned over from the backseat. "Hey, Sophie, do you need to pee yet?" he teased his ten-year-old sister, whose face was currently buried in a book.
Sophie, unfazed by her brother's teasing, simply rolled her eyes and continued reading. "No, Jake," she replied calmly, glancing out the window at the passing scenery.
Jake shifted uncomfortably in his seat, a sudden realization dawning on him. "Uh, Dad, I think I need to stop," he announced, trying to keep his voice steady.
Dad, a patient man with a knowing smile, glanced at him through the rearview mirror. "Oh, really? Didn't you just tease your sister about this?" he chuckled, sharing a conspiratorial look with Mom in the passenger seat.
Mom, a gentle woman with an ever-present sense of humor, turned to face her son. "Maybe this will teach you not to tease your sister," she suggested, winking at Sophie.
Jake squirmed in his seat, looking out the window desperately. "Come on, guys, this isn't funny anymore," he pleaded, his bravado replaced by genuine concern.
Dad finally relented, pulling into the parking lot. "Alright, Jake, lesson learned," he said with a smile as Jake bolted from the car.
Sophie giggled softly, watching her brother's retreating figure. "Next time, maybe you'll think twice before teasing," she called after him.
Jake, now relieved and slightly embarrassed, returned to his seat. "Okay, okay, I get it," he admitted, a sheepish grin spreading across his face.
Mom laughed softly, ruffling his hair. "It's all part of the journey, Jake," she said, as they all settled back into their seats, ready to continue their adventure together.
