Lila darted between the tide pools, her eyes scanning for sparkles among the shells.
Milo lifted a spiral shell to his ear, grinning, and called to his friend.
"Lila, come listen to this one! It sounds almost like it's whispering to me."
Lila hurried over, curiosity shining in her eyes as she took the shell from Milo's hands.
A gentle, musical whisper drifted from the shell, growing clearer as both children listened.
"Did you hear that? It asked if we want to go on an adventure under the sea!"
"Let’s say yes! I wonder what’s down there," Milo said, eyes wide with excitement.
As they nodded, a swirl of sparkling water rose around their feet, cool and bright, pulling them gently downward.
The children floated down, hand in hand, eyes wide as their world transformed.
Lila gasped as a rainbow of fish parted before her, their scales flashing in the sunbeams slicing through the water.
"Look at that coral! It’s like a forest, but made of crystals," Milo breathed, pointing to the intricate shapes rising up from the seafloor.
A sleek, silver shark circled once, then winked a dark eye and glided away, leaving behind a trail of bubbles.
The mermaids approached, hair flowing around their faces like seaweed.
Coralina, a kind mermaid with a crown of pearls, introduced herself with a warm smile.
"Welcome, Lila and Milo. Are you searching for treasure? We can guide you—follow us to the heart of the sea,"
The castle’s doors swung open as the group approached, and the treasures within dazzled their eyes.
"It’s more beautiful than I could have ever imagined," whispered Lila, reaching out to touch a glowing sapphire.
"Do you think we can take some home?" wondered Milo.
"The greatest treasures are the memories you make," said Coralina, her eyes twinkling.
Lila and Milo looked at each other, grinning, their hair damp and pockets mysteriously heavier with a few tiny, sparkling shells.
"Was it real? Or just a dream?"
"It feels real to me," said Lila, squeezing the shell and listening for the whisper of adventure that would always echo in her heart.
