Mia stood at the base of the tree, her fingers tracing the rough bark. Sophie and Ella joined her, their eyes fixed on their secret haven above. "This place is ours," Mia said softly.
"It's where we can be ourselves," Sophie added, a hint of determination in her voice. "And where we don't have to pretend," Ella whispered, her voice barely audible.
"Dear Mom and Dad," Mia read aloud, her voice steady despite the tremor in her hands. Sophie and Ella listened, their own hearts heavy with unspoken words. "We miss you both being together," Sophie added, reaching for a crayon to draw a heart on the page.
"We hope you are happy," Ella whispered, her eyes shining with unshed tears.
Mia closed the box, her heart a little lighter. "Maybe one day they'll understand," Sophie said, as she leaned against her sisters.
"And maybe we'll understand, too," Ella added, her voice filled with a quiet strength.
Mia looked at her sisters, gratitude swelling in her chest. "We'll always have each other," she said, her voice firm and reassuring.
"Forever," Sophie echoed, a smile lighting up her face.
"No matter what," Ella affirmed, her eyes sparkling with newfound hope.
Mia gazed out the window, her heart swelling with possibility. Sophie hugged Ella, and the sisters shared a moment of peace.
"Tomorrow is a new day," Mia said, her voice full of promise.
"And we'll face it together," Sophie replied, her determination unwavering.
"With hope in our hearts," Ella added, her smile bright as the stars.
