Li Li lay crumpled beneath his blanket, eyes wide open, trying to pierce through the thick darkness that surrounded him. The room was stripped of its usual joy, the absence of the pink dresser and colorful flowers leaving a void that seemed to echo his fear. His breath came in shallow gasps as the shadows danced ominously on the walls.
Li Li squeezed his eyes shut, wishing away the terrifying apparition. But a memory flickered to life in his mind—a lesson from the cloaked hero, who had shown him how to wear the hero's cloak, a symbol of courage and strength.
With a determined breath, Li Li stood on his bed, tying the plaid blanket around his neck like a makeshift cape. His heart pounded, but a newfound resolve steadied him. He turned towards the window, ready to face the creature lurking in the darkness.
Li Li peered closer, his eyes adjusting to the dim light. A smile began to form as he realized the truth. "Is this triangular monster the shadow of the vase in front of the window?" he exclaimed, laughter bubbling up from within him.
He threw himself back on the bed, the blanket-cape billowing around him like the wings of a hero. The shadows no longer seemed menacing; they were just shapes, mere reflections of the objects in his room.
With a contented sigh, Li Li closed his eyes, the cloak of bravery wrapped snugly around his heart. The shadowy monster was gone, replaced by the knowledge that he had the courage to face the unknown. As sleep claimed him, he knew that no nightmares would disturb his peace tonight.
