Hazel Nutters, the diligent chief of the Squirrel Scouts, organizes stacks of leaf memos at her desk. Around her, a dozen squirrel workers dart between meetings, clutching tiny clipboards fashioned from bark. The scent of fresh pine lingers in the air, punctuated by the distant sound of a woodpecker acting as the office timekeeper.
Chip Quickpaw, the enthusiastic junior scout, bounces in his seat as Hazel Nutters stands to address the group. "Alright, Squirrel Scouts, today's top priority is to check the northern branches for fresh acorn supplies. We're low after last night's storm," she announces, her voice sharp yet encouraging. Maple Whiskers, the meticulous records keeper, scribbles notes with a quill made from a blue jay feather.
"I can lead the scouting party! I spotted a whole cluster of green acorns by the eastern maple yesterday," Chip Quickpaw volunteers, his eyes gleaming with excitement. Hazel Nutters considers, then nods, assigning him a team. "Take Maple Whiskers with you. And remember—no running along the outer branches. Safety first,"
"I hope my charts are up to date. Last week a blue jay snatched half our acorns from this sector," Maple Whiskers murmurs, checking her bark clipboard. "Let’s keep an eye out and maybe leave a decoy pile to distract them," replies Chip Quickpaw, peering into the foliage ahead.
"Quick, help me catch them!" Chip Quickpaw calls, leaping nimbly to intercept the falling acorns. Maple Whiskers darts forward, using her tail as a net to corral the wayward nuts. Together, they save all but one, which lands gently in a mossy nook below.
"Excellent work, team! Thanks to your quick thinking, our acorn supplies are secure," Hazel Nutters beams, passing out tiny cups of maple sap to toast the day’s success. "Here’s to teamwork and never letting an acorn go to waste!" Chip Quickpaw cheers, and laughter fills the leafy office as the sun dips behind the ancient oak.
