Jacob stood in front of a group of giggling friends, their eyes gleaming with mischief as they handed him a floral dress and a curly wig. He hesitated, glancing around at the sea of people flowing past them.
"Alright, I'll do it," he said, accepting the dare with a nervous grin.
He took a deep breath, stepping into the throng, trying to ignore the curious glances from passersby. His heart raced as he passed by the large marble statue in the center of the mall.
As Jacob walked by, Max suddenly reached out, grabbing his arm with surprising strength. Jacob gasped, trying not to break character.
"Hey sis, welcome back home," Max whispered urgently, eyes pleading.
"Thanks for playing along," Max continued, his voice barely audible. "But now you're stuck as my sister statue for a while."
Jacob blinked, trying to process the situation. Max explained about Lila, his sister, who needed surgery desperately.
"Why grab me when I'm wearing a dress and a wig?" Jacob questioned, his voice tinged with a mix of confusion and sympathy.
"Because I know you'll stay and help," Max replied, hope flickering in his eyes. "You're here, and I never told my parents because they wouldn't let me do this."
With a deep breath, Jacob nodded. "Alright, I'll stay," he said, the decision bringing a sense of resolve. Jacob realized that sometimes, the bravest thing one could do was to stand still, even if it meant becoming a statue.
