Emma rushes to the stork's side, her heart pounding as she kneels in the dew-damp grass. Reggie the Border Terrier circles nervously, tail wagging with uncertainty. Digger the Owl and Bug the Boston Terrier hover nearby, their faces etched with concern. "Is he dead?" "No, it’s just his wing," "Funny looking fellow," "Poor guy," she murmurs softly, gently cradling the wounded stork’s wing. "He must be in a lot of pain. You better hold him."
Digger[/@ch_3], Reggie, and Bug pin the injured stork with gentle care. The moonlight glints off the arrow’s shaft, illuminating Emma’s determined face as she readies herself for a difficult task.]
"Ready," Emma's hands tremble as she grips the arrow and, with one swift motion, pulls it free. The stork shudders, but does not wake. Without hesitation, she tears a strip from her skirt and wraps it tightly around his wing, staunching the blood. Emma breaks the arrow in half and sighs in relief.
"G'day mate! This is your wake-up call," Digger hoots, his feathers ruffled. The stork, startled, struggles upright and flares his good wing in a defensive posture. Seamus the Stork (new character: Irish accent, proud, quick-witted), eyes darting, puffs up. "Takes more than an owl and two dogs to keep ole Seamus down," he declares. "Wait. I’m your friend," "If you’re my friend, how come you got an arrow in your hand?" With a playful flick, he snatches the broken arrow and tickles Emma’s chin, making her giggle.
"The same arrow I have in..." Seamus trails off, noticing his bandaged wing. "I took it out while you were unconscious," "You mean you tried to hurt me but instead you helped me?" "Yes." "My dear, I apologize. The name's Seamus, Lt. Seamus," bowing elegantly. "It’s a pleasure, Lt. Seamus. I’m Emma, Princess Emma," she replies, offering her hand. Seamus plants a gallant kiss on her knuckles. "These are my friends, Bug, Reginald, and Digger." "Call me Reggie," "I have no friends, only servants, and they call me Your Highness," bowing with exaggerated grandeur. "He thinks he's a prince," Bug snickers.
"I owe ya one, luv. I intend on stayin' til my debt is paid," Seamus exclaims, embracing Emma. "You’re very kind and I appreciate your offer, but I’m afraid there’s not that much you can do. He has me under a spell," "A spell? You mean like a magic thing?" He flaps again, and the flowers grow even brighter. "Holy..." Bug, Reggie, and Digger quickly grab Seamus and hide him, sensing danger.
Fisher[/@ch_6] (antagonist: menacing, persistent, fiery-tempered) strides out from the darkness, his silhouette stark against the glowing lake. His eyes gleam with obsession as he addresses Emma, voice dripping with mockery.]
"Your knight in shining armor has come to set you free," he cackles. "Let me at him! Let me at that freak!" Bug restrains Seamus. "Chill, dude," "It takes one word: Will you marry me?" "Every night, you ask the same question," "No, no..." "And I always give you the same answer," "Don't you dare." "I would rather kill myself than marry you." At her words, the magical color drains from the air. "You're starting to get on my nerves," "You should get used to it," "Don't raise your voice at me, young lady! Someday, I'm gonna boil over," "Go ahead then! Throw a tantrum like a baby! You’re still not getting my father's kingdom," Fisher’s rage flares; he lunges to strangle her, then halts, trembling.
Emma[/@ch_1] turns away, tears streaming down her face. She wades into the lake; as colorful lights swirl around her, her form blurs and shrinks. In her place stands a delicate stoat, golden-furred with piercing blue eyes.]
Emma’s sobs echo as Fisher storms off, frustration radiating in his wake. "Princess..." Seamus stares in shock at the transformation. Emma—now a stoat—sits hunched and shivering at the water’s edge, her tears reflecting the pain of her curse. In the hush that follows, hope flickers in her heart: perhaps, somewhere, Mikey will come to save her.
