The morning at Greenleaf Kindergarten was filled with laughter and the exciting chatter as the children played in the outdoors. Miss Amie, the kindergarten teacher, greeted the children with a warm smile as they gathered for the day's adventure. Toby, a lively young boy with a curious mind, waved his small hand high in the air. "Look, I found a piece of paper!" he said out loud , his eyes shining with excitement.
The children then embarked on an exciting "Emu hunt," pretending to be Emu's searching the garden beds and grounds for litter. Narla, a bright and observant girl, pointed out some lego in the bark and picked it up straight away. Miss Amie then reminded the class"Remember, picking up the rubbish keeps our environment green and clean,"as the children continued on their hunt .
when the class finished they raced to the vegetable gardens, excited to compost their fruit scraps from morning tea. "There are so many bugs flying out, Miss Amie!" Narla said, watching the insects dance around the compost bin. "These insects help break the food down to soil," Miss Amie explained, "We can then use it on the gardens".
Miss Amie then encouraged the class to gather leaves from the sports field to help the compost break down faster. The children ran with excitement, collecting as many leaves as they could, their laughter echoing across the field. When they returned to the vegetable garden Toby noticed a green tomato on the vine. "Can I pick it, Miss Amie?" he asked eagerly. "Not yet, Toby. We pick them when they turn red," she replied with a gentle smile.
As the children explored the herbs, Narla brushed her hand over a mint plant. "Can you smell that?" she asked her friend, the scent reminded her of toothpaste. Narla told her friend "That smells like clean teeth" and both the girls laughed and continued exploring the herbs.
The children then returned to the classroom, where Miss Penny, the center chef, greeted the class with a box of empty egg cartons and biscuit boxes. "Let's see what wonderful things you can create today," she said. The children raced to select their materials and moved quickly , turning trash into treasures with their imaginations at the art table.
As the day came to a end, their minds were full of the exciting new things they had learned. Miss Amie reminded the children, "Don't forget to empty your water bottles on the gardens. It's going to help the plants grow big and strong." Thechildren left Greenleaf Kindergarten, for the day excited for their next sustainability adventure with Miss Amie
