Benny was busy arranging his carrots, their bright orange hue contrasting with the lush greenery around his little market stall. Mabel, his mother, was nearby, chatting with customers and offering her warm smile to everyone who passed by.
"Remember, Benny, kindness is like a boomerang; it always comes back,"
"I know, Mom,"
Mabel noticed a small squirrel, its paw injured from a fall. She immediately knelt down, gently wrapping the paw with a soft leaf bandage.
"There you go, little one. Helping others is the best thing we can do,"
Benny watched, his eyes wide with admiration. He knew his mother was right.
As Benny packed up his stall for the day, he noticed Hilda, the hedgehog, looking longingly at his carrots. Her spines were slightly drooped, a clear sign of hunger.
"Here, take one," Benny offered with a smile.
"Oh, thank you, Benny! You're so kind," Hilda replied, her face lighting up with gratitude.
Benny was waiting alone outside the school, the usual vibrant atmosphere feeling unusually somber. His heart sank as he realized Mabel wouldn’t be coming; she was unwell.
"What am I going to do?" he whispered to himself, tears welling up in his eyes.
Hilda approached, her steps cautious yet filled with determination.
"Benny, don't worry. I'll take you home,"
"Thank you, Hilda. I didn't know who else to turn to,"
Benny arrived home safely with Hilda by his side. Mabel was resting, a gentle smile on her face as she saw them.
"I'm so proud of you, Benny. And grateful to you, Hilda,"
Hilda nodded, "Kindness always finds its way back,"
Benny beamed with understanding, realizing that his mother's lesson had come full circle.
