Max sat cross-legged on the floor, a book open in front of him. His brow furrowed in concentration, he traced the words with his finger but the letters swam before his eyes.
"Why can't I get these words right, Pecas?" he sighed, looking over at his faithful companion.
Pecas, a fluffy golden retriever with a wagging tail, nuzzled Max's hand reassuringly. The dog barked playfully and pranced around, fetching a worn-out book from the grass.
"You think we should try here?" Max asked, a hint of hope in his voice.
Pecas nudged the book with his nose, encouraging Max to try again. Taking a deep breath, Max sounded out the words slowly, "The... dog... ran... fast."
Pecas barked in applause, his eyes bright with encouragement.
Max laughed, the sound echoing through the garden. "It's working, Pecas! I can read it!" he exclaimed, hugging the dog tightly.
Pecas wagged his tail, a proud partner in their shared victory.
"Let's read one more story before bed," Max suggested, his eyes bright with excitement.
Pecas settled beside him, ready to listen and learn alongside his best friend.
With each story, Max felt his confidence grow, and with each bark of approval, Pecas seemed to understand the magic they were creating together.
"Thanks, Pecas," Max whispered, feeling grateful for the special bond they shared.
