An old crane stood by the water, his eyes scanning the depths for fish. The pond was teeming with life, and he had long enjoyed the bounty it provided. Yet, despite the abundance, his heart was filled with greed, always seeking more than he needed.
A wise crab approached the crane, curious about his intentions. "Why do you look so thoughtful, old friend?" "I have found another pond, even more splendid than this one," the crane replied. "I can take you there, away from the dangers of this drying pond." The crab, intrigued yet cautious, agreed to be carried by the crane.
The crab observed the world below, feeling a sense of wonder at the vastness of it all. However, his thoughts soon turned to suspicion as the crane flew in circles, never seeming to reach the promised pond. "Where are you taking me?" "Patience, my friend, we are almost there," replied the crane, though the crab noticed a sly glint in his eyes.
The crab realized the crane's true intentions. "You deceived me," he accused. "You never intended to take me to another pond, did you?" The crane chuckled, "Why settle for one meal when I can have many?" Fury surged within the crab, and he clamped his claws around the crane's neck.
The crane gasped as the crab's grip tightened. "Let go!" he croaked, his voice faltering. "Why should I?" the crab retorted. "You tried to betray me, and now you must face the consequences." The crane's strength waned, and the crab's resolve only grew stronger.
The crane plummeted to the ground, defeated by the crab's cunning. The crab released his hold just in time, landing safely near the pond. "Greed is a dangerous foe," he mused, watching as the stars began to twinkle above. The pond remained peaceful, a reminder that sometimes, justice is served in the most unexpected ways.
