Jacob Shae, a boy of ten with fair red short hair, green eyes, and fair skin, dressed in vibrant green clothes, leaned over a small, blinking contraption he’d built from scavenged electronics. The air buzzed with electricity and anticipation. Suddenly, a surge of power crackled through the device, and a blinding emerald flash filled the room. In an instant, Jacob vanished—leaving behind only the echo of thunder and the faint scent of ozone.
Jacob tumbled onto the soft ground, blinking against the sudden brightness. The world looked different—simpler, quieter. He stared in disbelief at the unfamiliar houses, with their boxy cars and clotheslines fluttering in the breeze. Confused and overwhelmed, Jacob stumbled to his feet, clutching his chest as he tried to make sense of what had happened. "Where am I? This can't be my neighborhood..."
Jacob wandered cautiously, his emerald clothes drawing curious looks. He passed a group of kids trading baseball cards and marveled at the lack of smartphones and electric cars. The scent of fresh-cut grass and the sight of bell-bottom jeans made everything feel surreal. A boy with freckles called out, Billy Turner, friendly neighborhood kid in striped shirt and patched jeans. "Hey! I’ve never seen you before. You new around here?"
Jacob accepted Billy's invitation to come inside. The kitchen felt warm and inviting, so different from his own future home. Billy poured lemonade and asked questions with wide-eyed curiosity. "So, where did you move from? You talk kinda funny," Jacob hesitated, unsure how to explain, and finally replied, "It's a long story... I guess you could say I came from far away."
Jacob shared more with Billy, showing him the futuristic watch and other trinkets he’d brought from 2025. Billy listened in awe, eyes growing wide as he realized the truth. "Are you... like, a time traveler? That’s wild!" Jacob nodded, feeling both scared and excited. "I need to figure out how to get back. But maybe, for now, we can be friends?"
Jacob gazed at the stars beginning to appear, feeling a sense of belonging despite his predicament. Billy promised to help him search for a way home, and the two boys made plans under the gentle glow of fireflies. "We’ll figure it out together. Until then, you can teach me about the future—and I’ll show you all the cool stuff from the seventies," Jacob smiled, hope blooming in his heart as a new friendship began to form.
