Liam stood at the bus stop, shivering slightly in the early morning chill. He adjusted his backpack, glancing around at the small crowd gathered under the dim streetlights. His eyes landed on a girl with bright eyes and a friendly smile, who seemed to be waiting just like him.
Emily noticed Liam and waved. "Hey, you're waiting for the bus to Greenfield High too?"
"Yeah, first day, right? Nervous?" Liam replied, trying to keep the conversation flowing despite the butterflies in his stomach.
Emily laughed softly, a sound that cut through the murmur of the morning. "A bit. I've heard that Mr. Thompson is quite the character. My brother said he's always doing these crazy experiments in science class."
Liam nodded, intrigued. "I heard he once tried to show how a volcano erupts and ended up covering the whole class in foam!" Emily giggled, and the two continued to exchange stories about the teachers they had heard about.
Liam sighed, his thoughts turning to less amusing topics. "I'm more worried about the math test. Everyone says it's a nightmare."
Emily shrugged, trying to sound confident. "I guess we'll just have to study really hard. Maybe we can help each other?" The suggestion hung in the air, promising potential in their newfound acquaintance.
As the bus pulled up, Liam and Emily boarded together, sitting side by side. They pulled out their schedules, comparing notes.
"Wait, you're in Room 204 for homeroom?" Liam asked, his eyebrows rising in surprise.
Emily nodded enthusiastically. "Yes! That's my class too! What a coincidence!"
The realization sparked excitement between them. Liam grinned, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. "Well, I guess we're stuck with each other now!"
Emily laughed, her eyes twinkling. "Seems like it. I'm glad though, it's nice to have a friendly face around."
As the bus came to a halt at the school gates, Liam and Emily stepped off together, ready to face the new challenges of high school. Their spirits were high, buoyed by the promise of a new friendship and shared experiences.
"Let's tackle the day, shall we?" Liam said, feeling unexpectedly confident.
Emily nodded, her backpack bouncing lightly against her shoulders. "Absolutely. We've got this." Together, they walked towards the school, the beginning of a promising journey ahead.
