Stephanie stood in the center of the schoolyard, her eyes scanning the crowd. Her heart leapt with joy when she spotted Ethan, an old friend from kindergarten. She approached him with her usual exuberance, her smile as bright as the sun overhead.
"Ethan! It's been ages!" she exclaimed, lifting him off the ground in a big, affectionate bear hug.
Ethan was startled. "Put me down, please!" he cried, his voice tinged with panic.
Stephanie quickly set Ethan down, her cheeks flushed with confusion. "I thought... I thought you'd be happy to see me," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
Ethan took a step back, his expression a mix of embarrassment and frustration. Without another word, he turned and hurried away, leaving Stephanie standing alone amidst the whispers of their peers.
Spider-Man, ever perceptive, noticed Ethan's distress and waved him over. "Hey there, buddy. What's got you so upset?" he asked gently.
Ethan sighed and recounted the incident. "It’s just... everyone thinks it’s fun to pick me up. I feel like I'm just a toy for them to toss around," he explained, his voice tinged with vulnerability.
Spider-Man nodded understandingly. "I doubt Stephanie meant any harm. Why don't you talk to her?" he suggested, his tone warm and encouraging.
Ethan found Stephanie near their classroom. Taking a deep breath, he approached her. "Hey, can we talk?" he asked, his voice tentative but open.
Stephanie nodded eagerly, relief washing over her features. "I'm really sorry, Ethan. I didn't know it upset you," she said earnestly.
"It's okay. I just wanted to let you know how it feels," Ethan replied, a small smile beginning to form.
Stephanie smiled brightly, a playful glint in her eyes. "How about a piggyback ride to class? Only if you want to, of course," she offered with a wink.
Ethan hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Alright, just this once," he chuckled, climbing onto her back with newfound trust.
As they walked into the classroom, laughter and camaraderie filled the air, a testament to their mended friendship and mutual understanding.
