Baxter, a golden retriever with gentle eyes and a muddy nose, pads softly across the lawn, his tail wagging lazily as he sniffs around his favorite spots. Somewhere nearby, a faint, desperate squeak breaks the evening’s calm.
Remy, a clever but frightened gray rat, is caught by one paw in the trap. Baxter approaches, ears perked, his nose twitching as he senses distress. "Please, someone help me! I’m stuck!"
Baxter sits beside Remy, lowering his head to meet the rat’s frightened eyes. "Don’t be scared. I want to help you," Baxter says softly, his voice rumbling with kindness. "But you’re a dog… dogs chase rats," Remy whispers, trembling.
Baxter[/@ch_1] examines the trap, careful not to startle Remy. The metallic scent of the trap is sharp against the earthy aroma.]
"Not all dogs," Baxter reassures, gently nosing the metal. "Hold still. I’ll try to open it with my teeth, but you mustn’t move until I say so," he instructs. "Okay… I trust you," Remy replies, his whiskers twitching in hope.
Baxter[/@ch_1] carefully clamps his jaws around the trap’s mechanism, muscles tense with effort.]
With a soft, determined growl, Baxter tugs and twists the metal until, with a sharp click, the trap springs open. Remy lets out a squeal of surprise as his paw is freed, and he pulls it close, trembling. "You did it! Thank you, Baxter!" Remy exclaims, eyes shining with gratitude.
Baxter gently licks Remy’s injured paw, careful not to hurt him. "I never thought I’d call a dog my hero," Remy says, a small laugh in his voice. "And I never thought I’d find a friend in a rat," Baxter replies, his tail thumping with joy.
