Kenny, a little boy with a mop of curly hair, was wrapped around his mother's legs, looking up with sparkling eyes. Kary, his mother, leaned down to scoop him up in a warm embrace. "Rawr!" Kenny exclaimed, imitating his favorite dinosaur sound, making Kary laugh.
Kary watched her son from the kitchen doorway as he sat on the couch, eyes glued to his phone. She remembered the days when he used to run to her with open arms. "Hey, Kenny, how was school?" she asked, hoping to start a conversation. "It was fine, Mom," Kenny replied, not looking up.
Kary sighed, feeling the distance growing between her and her son. She longed for the dinosaur roars and spontaneous hugs. "Kenny, do you want to watch a movie together?" she suggested. "Maybe later, Mom," Kenny replied from his room, his voice barely audible.
Kary joined him, the silence between them comfortable. She placed a gentle hand on his back. "Mom, I know I don't say it much... but I love you," Kenny murmured, his voice laced with sincerity. "I know, sweetheart," Kary replied, her heart swelling with warmth.
Kary watched Kenny as he prepared to leave for college, his car packed with boxes. "You'll be back for the holidays, right?" she asked, trying to sound casual. "Of course, Mom," Kenny reassured her, giving her a quick hug. Though brief, the embrace spoke volumes of the bond between them.
Kenny had written to her from afar, his words filled with love and gratitude. Kary smiled, feeling the warmth of his words wrap around her like a hug. She realized that, though he might not roar like a dinosaur anymore, the love between them remained as fierce and unyielding as ever.
