Aisha pressed her face to the glass, frowning at the silent fountain. The colorful park, usually lively with children’s laughter and splashing water, now seemed subdued beneath the sign that read, “Water levels are low. Please save water.” Rohan tugged at his friend’s sleeve, curiosity flickering in his eyes. "Save water? How? Doesn't Mumbai get lots of rain in the monsoon?"
Aisha's dad, with gentle eyes and a reassuring smile, sets aside his paper. "It does, but did you know most of our drinking water comes all the way from big lakes outside the city, like Vihar Lake and Tansa Lake? It takes a lot of effort to clean it and bring it to our taps. So, even with the monsoon, saving water is important all year round!" Aisha and Rohan exchange thoughtful glances, the weight of the fountain’s silence settling in a new way.
Aisha calls out, concern tingeing her voice. "Papa, the tap is leaking!"Aisha's dad appears with a wrench, kneeling to fix the tap. "Good job being a Water Watcher, Aisha!" Aisha beams with pride, a newfound sense of responsibility blooming within her.
Rohan remembers something his father once did, stepping forward with polite confidence. "Excuse me, Uncle, maybe using a bucket would save water?" The neighbor pauses, considering, and then smiles approvingly. Neighbor Uncle, a friendly man in a faded blue shirt, nods. "That's a good idea, Rohan!" The children share a look of accomplishment, feeling their influence ripple outward.
Aisha's mom, patient and inventive, explains her method. "We can reuse water like this—just like collecting rainwater for the plants."Rohan times himself brushing his teeth, determined to keep the tap off while scrubbing. Aisha and Rohan make a pact to be super Water Watchers, checking every tap and shower after use.
Aisha imagines a lake slowly filling drop by drop, each of their small actions making a difference. "It could be like saving a whole small lake!"Rohan grins, determination shining in his eyes. "Every drop counts!"Aisha lifts her chin, her voice clear and strong. "We're Water Watchers, saving water for our city!" Together, they know their efforts ripple far beyond their building—helping to protect Mumbai’s precious water, one drop at a time.
