Timmy bounced on his bed, clutching his tooth between his fingers. He looked at his reflection in the mirror, grinning at the new gap in his smile.
"This is it! My first lost tooth. The Tooth Fairy will be so surprised!"
He carefully placed the tooth beneath his pillow, tucking the covers around it. As he snuggled under his blanket, he whispered goodnight to his tooth and squeezed his eyes shut, imagining what kind of treasure he might find in the morning.
A strange humming sound filled the room. Timmy blinked his eyes open, startled. His pillow wiggled and jiggled, and before he could shout, his baby tooth shot up, spinning in midair.
The tooth grew eyes and a big, friendly smile.
Toothie, the magical tooth guide, twirled and hovered above Timmy’s head.
"Hello, Timmy! Ready for an adventure? We’re going to travel through time and see how kids took care of their teeth long ago—and even in the future!"
"Whoa! Are you really my tooth? Can we really go anywhere?"
"Anywhere and anywhen! Hold on tight!"
With a flash of blue light, the room spun like a merry-go-round, and suddenly, everything changed.
Timmy blinked in the bright sun, his pajamas looking very out of place. A group of children laughed nearby, brushing their teeth with frayed twigs dipped in sweet-smelling paste.
"Toothie, what are they doing?"
"In Ancient Egypt, kids used chew sticks and toothpaste made from crushed eggshells, ashes, and even flowers!"
One Egyptian boy waved them over, showing his toothy grin.
Amun, a cheerful boy with a gold necklace, held out a twig.
"Want to try? My mother says this keeps our teeth strong for smiling at the pharaoh!"
"It smells funny, but I’ll try!"
Timmy giggled as he chewed on the stick, surprised by the gritty taste. The children laughed and showed him how they cared for their teeth long before toothbrushes ever existed.
A cool breeze ruffled Timmy’s hair. He watched a medieval girl brushing her teeth with a cloth dipped in salty water.
Matilda, with freckles and a woolen dress, smiled shyly.
"We use cloth to clean our teeth, but sweets are rare. Sometimes the tooth-puller comes to help with sore teeth, but I hope I never need him!"
"In those days, people didn’t have toothpaste. They used herbs, salt, and even chalk to clean their teeth," explained Toothie.
The tooth-puller, a jolly man with a feathered hat, waved at Timmy and Toothie, jingling his bell.
Tooth-Puller Tom, with twinkling eyes, called out,
"Take care of your teeth, or I’ll have to pull them with my big tongs!"
Timmy and Matilda giggled, making faces at the thought of giant tongs. Timmy was glad he only had to brush his teeth, not worry about tooth-pullers!
Timmy's eyes widened. Robots were brushing kids’ teeth with swirling rainbow gels that sparkled like glitter.
Zara, a girl with blue hair and shiny silver shoes, waved her hand and a toothbrush floated to Timmy.
"Welcome! In the future, we use smart brushes that clean every tooth in ten seconds. And our toothpaste tastes like bubblegum and strawberries!"
"See, Timmy?" Toothie grinned. "Dental care keeps getting better and better. No matter when or where, healthy teeth mean happy smiles!"
Timmy tried the smart brush, giggling as it buzzed and cleaned his teeth before he could even count to ten.
"It’s time for me to go, Timmy. Remember to brush every day, no matter when you are!"
"Thank you, Toothie. That was the best adventure ever!"
With a final wink, Toothie vanished, leaving Timmy with a big, shiny smile. Timmy lifted his pillow and gasped—a shiny coin and a tiny note sat where his tooth had been. The note read, "Keep brushing, Time Traveler! —The Tooth Fairy."
Timmy grinned, already dreaming of his next adventure as he drifted happily back to sleep.
