Waffles, a Millefleur chicken with feathers adorned in vibrant floral patterns, perched on the fence with a keen eye on the UPS truck. Every day, she watched its arrival with curiosity, intrigued by the human rituals and the steady rhythm of deliveries. Today, however, was different. Mr. Austin, the driver, seemed overwhelmed as he sorted through a mountain of packages.
Waffles couldn't resist her curiosity any longer. She flapped her wings, landing softly inside the truck. Mr. Austin was struggling with an especially large package, his brow furrowed with concentration. Waffles let out a loud cluck, startling him. "Oh, hello there, little helper," Mr. Austin chuckled, grateful for the company.
Waffles sprang into action. She spotted Mrs. Jewell struggling with her own package and clucked loudly. Mrs. Jewell turned, her face lighting up at the sight of Waffles. Waffles nudged the package to her, earning a delighted laugh. "Thank you, dear Waffles!" exclaimed Mrs. Jewell.
Waffles noticed Stephen searching for his soccer ball. With a determined cluck, she nudged the ball towards him, her wings flapping with excitement. The children erupted in cheers, and Stephen beamed at his feathery friend. "Waffles, you're the best!" he shouted.
Waffles even managed to chase away a mischievous squirrel from the parcels. Mr. Austin watched in amazement as Waffles continued her enthusiastic assistance. "I think you've earned this," he smiled, placing a "Helper of the Day" sticker on Waffles's wing.
From that day forward, Waffles became Mr. Austin's unofficial delivery assistant, eagerly awaiting each new adventure. Together, they brought smiles and joy to the heart of Montpelier, one cluck at a time. "Let's see what tomorrow holds, my little helper," Mr. Austin said, as Waffles settled on the passenger seat, ready for the next day's journey.
