Emma stood at the edge of her new driveway, gazing at the unfamiliar surroundings with a mix of apprehension and excitement. Her breath formed small clouds in the chilly air. She was jolted from her thoughts by the sound of barking and turned to see two dogs bounding towards her, tails wagging furiously.
"Well, hello there!" Emma laughed, crouching down to greet her unexpected visitors. Luna's coat shimmered like spun gold, while Max's fur was as dark as the night. Luna nuzzled against Emma's hand, while Max plopped down at her feet, panting happily.
Emma had decided to take a break from unpacking and explore the area. The dogs led the way, tails wagging exuberantly. "I wonder how you two found me yesterday," she mused aloud. Luna barked in response, as if to say it was destiny.
Max suddenly darted ahead, stopping at the entrance of a small, hidden grove. Luna followed, her tail a blur of excitement. Emma hesitated for a moment before pushing aside the branches and stepping into the clearing.
Emma noticed something unusual about the tree—a small, weathered plaque partially buried in the earth. "What do you think it says?" she wondered aloud, brushing away the dirt. The inscription was faded, but she could just make out the words, "In memory of friendships past and present."
Emma felt a warmth in her heart, realizing that she was not alone in this new place. The dogs, with their wagging tails and joyful spirits, had not only welcomed her but had also led her to a piece of the town's heart. "Thank you, my friends," she whispered, feeling truly at home.
